The Great Exhibition

The Great Exhibition sometimes gets referred to as the Crystal Place Exhibition. The Crystal Place Exhibition because of the building it was held in, it took place in Hyde Park in London from 1st of May untill 11th of October 1851. It was the first ever exhibition of culture and industry that was to because very popular in 19th Century. It was attended by many notable figures at the time: Charles Darwin, Samuel Colt, Charles Dickens George Elliot and many other notable people.

There was about 100000 objects displayed, more than 10 miles by over 15000 contributors. Britain was the host so they occupied most of the display space inside. The exhibition was opened on 1st of May by Queen Victoria. The prices where £3 for Men and £2 for Women.




This is where The Great Exhibition was placed. The Building had to fit hundred's of people and many large machines.


These two Photos show the Exhibition, while it was on going.  They show how many people there was and also they show that there was many different sizes and types of machines.
